Speciality Restaurants opens first UK restaurant Chourangi in Marylebone
Indian restaurant chain Speciality Restaurants is set to open the doors on its first UK Chourangi site on Quebec Street in London's Marylebone.
The chain, which was founded by chef Anjan Chatterjee in 1992, has 130 restaurants across five countries and has named its London venue after Chowringhee, after one of the oldest districts in Calcutta.
The restaurant will offer guests Calcutta cuisine, which is a blend of British, Dutch, Armenian, French, Portuguese and Chinese flavours, featuring dishes such as prawn and crab parcels, banana flower croquettes, slow-roasted kosha lamb and Aam Aachar Hilsa.
Chatterjee has partnered with airline and tech entrepreneur Aditya Ghosh to open the 2,900 sq ft site, designed by Design LSM, on 7 October. It will feature Indian limestone floors and rattan teak-stained furniture and fans, in an attempt to transport diners to the famous coffee houses of Calcutta, with an influence of British heritage clubs.
