NHS urges operators to prepare for test and trace app launch
Hospitality venues have been asked to create their own QR code in preparation for the launch of the NHS test and trace app next week.
Displaying the code in a venue will allow users to check-in following the launch of the app in England and Wales on Thursday.
The NHS will hold the data for 21 days and alert users who may have come into contact with the virus via the app to offer health advice in the event of an outbreak.
Health secretary Matt Hancock said: "QR codes provide an easy and simple way to collect contact details to support the NHS test and trace system.
"Hospitality businesses can now download posters for their premises ahead of the launch of the NHS Covid-19 app. This will allow the public to seamlessly check into venues using the app when it launches.
"It is vital we are using the NHS test and trace system to reach as many people as possible to prevent outbreaks and stop this virus in its tracks. This function will make it simple and easy so we can keep this virus under control."
Businesses have been reminded that they will still need to collect customer details for those not using the app, in line with the government's Covid-19 regulations for the industry.
