Sauna fire prompts partial evacuation of Belfry hotel
Fire fighters were called to the Ryder Cup hosting Belfry hotel in Warwickshire this morning after a fire started in the sauna and spread to changing rooms.
Almost 100 people were evacuated to an unaffected area of the building in Sutton Coldfield at 4am this morning, while about 20 fire fighters extinguished the flames.
The hotel later tweeted: "Following a small fire in the men's changing room of the leisure club this morning, we would like to thank the fire brigade and our team for their prompt response and support. Everyone is safe and well and we hope to have the changing room facilities open again very soon."
Just last month the hotel was acquired by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Cedar Capital Partners.
The venue, which has three 18-hole golf courses, has hosted the Ryder Cup four times. Situated within a 550-acre estate, the full-service resort has 320 guest rooms, five restaurants, a spa and multiple leisure amenities.
