Another 57 high streets set to share in £830m fund to boost town centres
A further 57 English high streets are set to receive a share of an £830m fund to support the reopening and recovery of town centres.
Already confirmed plans for the Future High Streets Fund include £17.28m for Grimsby to create a new multiplex cinema and market food hall; £13.96m for Taunton (pictured) towards new hospitality venues, homes and business spaces; and £6.28m for Sutton-in-Ashfield towards repurposing vacant retail space into offices and hospitality venues, as well as a new pop-up food and events space.
The fund will be split between 72 English high streets in total.
Communities secretary Robert Jenrick said: "This funding is part of wider support we are providing to communities and businesses, to protect jobs, support the most vulnerable and ensure no one is left behind as we recover from pandemic.
"This investment will make a huge difference to towns and cities across England and transform them into desired places to shop, visit, live and work.
"The Future High Streets Fund will support towns, communities and businesses as we get back to enjoying the best of what the high street has to offer."
