Applebee brothers to open La Gamba in London's Southbank
The brothers behind Applebee's Fish in London's Borough Market are to open La Gamba, a riverside tapas restaurant, at London's Southbank Centre in February.
Applebee's Fish started as a fish stall in London's Borough Market in 1998 and has since grown into a seafood restaurant in London Bridge.
Brothers Jack, Harry and Matthew, who have taken on the business from their parents Joy and Graham Applebee, have already launched three separate concepts at the Southbank Centre.
La Gamba is their newest project. It will offer traditional Spanish recipes with a focus on the north-western corner of Galicia, featuring a range of seafood dishes, cheeses and almond-based sweets that the region is known for.
Examples include St Austell mussels cooked in albariño and chorizo sauce; Cornish crab and fennel tostada; Iberico pork cheek empanadas and Galician picanha steak with truffle and San Simón cheese.
The drinks selection will showcase in-house Vermouth, a variety of Sangrias and Sherrys, as well as Rioja wine.
The natural terracotta, stone and oak interiors have been designed by Basque architect Cristina Lanz Azcarate from Atelier EURA.
La Gamba will be open every day from 11am – 11pm.
