Water damage to Cardiff's Coal Exchange hotel ‘far greater than first thought'
Cardiff's Coal Exchange hotel has said that, following a burst water pipe, the property and its water system sustained "far greater damage than first thought".
The hotel and Culley's Kitchen & Bar remain closed for repair work to be carried out, and a spokesperson said the team was "aiming to reopen the hotel as soon as possible".
During the evening of Saturday 18 February, the hotel had to close due to a burst water pipe. All hotel guests were moved to another venue within the city.
The hotel had previously said it was unable to give an "exact timeframe" on reopening but hoped to be able to welcome guests back for the Wales v England Six Nations rugby match on Saturday (28 February).
The Grade II-listed hotel building was built in 1883 and was once where the world price of coal was set.
It reopened as a hotel in 2017 following a £40m revamp and was part of the Signature Living group until the business fell into administration in 2020.
