SpiceBox to close remaining restaurant site

Vegan Indian restaurant group SpiceBox is to close its final remaining site at the end of the month as the London curry house reported it can no longer "weather consecutive storms".

SpiceBox was founded by Grace Regan (pictured) in 2016 and started as an Indian takeaway, serving signature dishes such as the chick ‘n' korma, shroom keema and banana chai doffle.

The group had ambitions plans to expand and at one point hoped to open curry houses on high streets across the country.

However, Regan announced the closure of the original Walthamstow restaurant on Instagram, posting: "It's no secret that the restaurant world has been battered by consecutive storms since March 2020 and I am afraid that our little curry house can no longer weather these storms. We have tried everything to keep our ship afloat but our time has come."

The restaurant will close after its final service on 30 April.

Regan added she would like to spend the next fortnight "celebrating all that we have achieved over the last 4.5 years" instead of "mourn[ing] the end" and has asked customers to visit before the closure.

Spicebox opened a second restaurant in London's Leytonstone following a 2019 crowdfunding campaign, but the site closed last September after a year of trading.

The SpiceBox Instagram indicated that it continues to offer curries and dhals through Planet Organic, Eat 17 and Ocado Zoom.
