Trump Turnberry reports pre-tax loss of £10.04m
The 208-bedroom Trump Turnberry resort on the west coast of Scotland has reported a pre-tax loss of £10.04m for 2018.
In its annual report lodged at Companies House, Golf Recreation Scotland, the parent company of the hotel bought by US president Donald Trump in 2014, said that "significant capital expenditure, including investment in energy-efficient assets" has taken place during the year following on from the £200m refurbishment of the hotel in 2016.
Turnover of the hotel overlooking the Firth of Clyde in Ayrshire - up by 20.5% to £18.41m – was highlighted as the highest in the resort's 113-year history.
In a review of the business, director Eric Trump said: "Now in its fifth full operating year under Trump Hotels ownership, Trump Turnberry has established itself as Scotland's premier destination for luxury travel, championship gold and special events.
"As part of an ongoing multi-million pound renovation, ownership continues to improve and modernise the property's facilities including newly upgraded villas, enhanced spa and wellness offerings and an outdoor guest activity centre which will be fully completed in 2020."
Trump Turnberry is operated under Marriott's Luxury Collection. The ultimate parent company of Golf Recreation Scotland is Donald J Trump Revocable Trust, registered in New York.
