Scottish students asked to stay away from hospitality venues this weekend amid campus outbreaks

Students in Scotland have been asked to stay away from hospitality venues this weekend as parts of the country have seen a spike in cases in student accommodation.

First minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon stressed the guidance was only for this weekend, following which students would be asked to follow the same rules as the rest of the public.

She said: "The reason for this is that there are, as we know, a number of campus outbreaks across Scotland, so we want to do everything possible to stop this spreading any further and staying away from hospitality is one of the ways in which students can help us do that."

However, Matt Crilly, National Union of Students Scotland president, said the rules "unfairly blames" students and are "deeply concerning – not least to those students who rely on income from hospitality jobs".
