Redundancies expected at Marine Troon hotel ahead of refurbishment
Redundancies will be made at the Marine Troon hotel in South Ayrshire when it closes in January for refurbishment.
Owner AJ Capital Partners said that while the hotel was originally planned to remain open during renovations, "the scope of the planned work would prevent us from delivering the quality of experience that our guests expect".
The group declined to comment on the number of staff affected. The 89-bedroom property is expected to reopen next summer.
A statement said: "Marine Troon will close in January 2022 to complete planned refurbishments on the property. While we originally intended to remain open during renovations, we ultimately concluded that the scope of the planned work would prevent us from delivering the quality of experience that our guests expect.
"Renovations will be comprehensive encompassing common spaces, food and beverage concepts and a portion of guest rooms.
"Redundancies will be made during this closure period and recruitment will take place in preparation for reopening later in 2022."
AJ Capital Partners has made a string of hotel acquisitions in the UK in recent years, some of which have reopened under its Graduate Hotels banner focused on university cities such as Oxford and Cambridge
Others, such as the Marine Troon, which was acquired from Cannock Group and Stellar Asset Management last year, come under its Marine & Lawn Collection, targeted at the golf and leisure market.
The Rusacks St Andrews and Marine North Berwick in East Lothian, are also part of this collection.
The fourth property to join the collection was the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa in Newcastle, County Down, bought from Hastings Hotels in October.
