Quays hotel Sheffield sold to Canadian hospitality giant
The Quays hotel in Sheffield has been sold to Canadian hospitality company Northland Properties Corporation off a guide price of £10m.
The deal includes the 128-bedroom hotel, which occupies a three-acre site, and its adjacent multi-storey car park.
The hotel previously traded as the Hilton Sheffield before it closed in 2019, impacting around 100 jobs. It relaunched in 2020 as a Best Western Plus under the management of Legacy Hotels.
Now it has been sold to the Northland Properties, the parent company of multiple hotel chains, restaurants, and sports teams, which was founded in 1963 and is owned by the Gaglardi family.
It already operates three UK hotels under the Sandman Signature brand in Aberdeen, Newcastle and at Gatwick airport, with several new locations in negotiation and under consideration.
Mitch Gaglardi of Northland Properties said: "The acquisition of the Quays hotel is a strategic one for our group as we look build our UK platform. The extensive real estate plays to our development skills and we look forward to showcasing the next Sandman Signature following the significant programme of investment we envisage being undertaken in due course."
The company also owns the Denny's restaurant chain in Canada and the Dallas Stars, Texas Stars and Kamloops Blazers hockey teams.
Property firm Christie & Co brokered the sale.
