Popeyes to open first Scottish site
North American fried chicken brand Popeyes is to open its first site in Scotland later this year.
Last week, the group revealed it had secured a £50m investment from private equity firm TDR Capital, which also backs the UK's largest pub group, Stonegate Pub Company.
The Scottish store will be a drive-through restaurant in Barrhead's retail park, just outside of Glasgow, and will serve Popeyes' signature 12-hour marinated chicken, as well as its new breakfast menu, which features dishes such as the Big Breakfast Roll and the Louisiana buttermilk biscuit.
It comes after the fast food chain launched its first UK drive-through restaurant in Rotherham in May.
The 72-cover Popeyes Barrhead marks the group's 12th opening in 2023 and 29th opening since it opened its first UK restaurant in Stratford in November 2021. . Tom Crowley, chief executive of Popeyes UK, said: "We are thrilled to announce that Popeyes will be opening in Scotland for the first time later this year. Opening restaurants in Scotland has been key for us since we first landed in the UK, and we're looking forward to opening across the country, starting with a drive thru in Barrhead.
"Our recent openings have been some of the biggest to date, not just in the UK but for Popeyes globally, and we are confident that our launch in Scotland will prove just as popular."
