Hospitality apprentices step up for Skills Olympics in Russia
Hospitality students are among a cohort of 37 of the UK's best and brightest apprentices who will put their skills to the test in Russia this week.
Sam Everton of deli and bakery Crwst in Cardigan, Wales, will represent the UK on the world stage in the cookery competition in Kazan.
Meanwhile Collette Gorvett, of Gower College Swansea, will put her restaurant service skills to the task at the show, which will open for some 54,000 spectators.
Each finalist has gone through a rigorous range of regional and national trials put on by Worldskills UK, a partnership between industry and government designed to promote and praise talent among apprentices in a range of professions.
Other young professionals and trainees include brickies, plumbers, cyber security experts, 3D games designers, beauticians, stonemasons and lab technicians.
Dr. Neil Bentley-Gockmann, chief executive of WorldSkills UK, said: "Team UK is up for it. They've done so much training and can't wait to get started and represent the UK at its best on the world stage.
"I'm sure the whole country will join me in wishing Team UK the best of British."
