Milan restaurant Giannino Dal 1899 to open in London
One of Italy's longest established restaurants is to launch an outpost in London's Mayfair next month.
Giannino Dal 1899 first opened its doors in Milan 120 years and has since become known for its traditional Italian home cooking.
The launch of the restaurant on Blenheim Street in Mayfair, with an interior designed by Italian architectural studio Spagnulo & Partners, marks the restaurant's first steps outside of Italy.
Giuseppe Varrella, general manager of of Giannino Dal 1899 Milan, said: "Since we first had the idea, we always wanted to make sure that if we ever expanded internationally our venues would maintain the same level of class and refinement, while still effectively melting into the fine dining London scene."
The restaurant's à la carte menu, overseen by executive chef Salvatore Suzzi, will introduce a modern twist to traditional dishes such babà di lasagne al ragù Napoletano; spaghetti aglio with olio e peperoncino (spaghetti with garlic oil and hot pepper); and Mazara del Vallo red prawns crudo.
Suzzi said: "Of course there will be homemade desserts, including orange cannoncini with Namelaka cream and raspberry sauce, a reinterpretation of the traditional Sicilian dessert, to which is added a soft cream typical of the Japanese tradition.
