Fine-dining restaurant pop-up launches £100,000 crowdfund to secure permanent site

The pair behind fine-dining residency Gather have launched a £100,000 crowdfunding campaign to open a permanent flagship restaurant.

Charlotte and Martin Major's business began as a supper club in a coffee shop in 2018. Since then, it has grown into a two-year residency at the Blackhorse Lane Ateliers in London's Walthamstow.

The husband-and-wife team revealed that the rising popularity of the residency meant that "the time had come to find a permanent larger space".

So far, they have raised £23,700 from 252 backers (as of 1 December). Eight days remain until the end of the Kickstarter campaign.

The new site will be a 28-seat restaurant featuring a small private dining area and a fine foods shop, which will have a deli counter selling freshly baked goods and seasonal produce.

The website for the campaign reads: "Both of us have worked for most of our professional lives towards this moment - creating a space that people can come and make memories, share moments and connect. After being separated during the long, lonely lockdowns of the pandemic, this is something that drives us more than anything else."
