Chef Budgie Montoya of Sarap launches crowdfunding campaign

Chef Budgie Montoya is to launch a crowdfund drive to open a permanent site for his Filipino restaurant Sarap in London's Soho.

The campaign will be held on Seedrs, an online equity crowdfunding company, and can be viewed here.

Sarap wrote on Instagram: "From supper club to permanent restaurant, the journey has been long but chef Budgie Montoya's dream of opening a restaurant that is the beacon of modern Filipino cuisine in London is almost there.

"We've found a site and we're so excited! But we'll need your help. We will be launching a crowdfunder soon to give you our most loyal of customers a chance to invest in Sarap and help secure our future."

Sarap has been running a temporary residency at the 10 Heddon Street site in Mayfair since 2021. It serves Montoya's twist on Filipino cuisine, with dishes such as cassava hash brown, celeriac kare kare and Rellenong crispy pata – a fried pigs trotter.

The chef has not confirmed how much money he is looking to raise. Those wanting priority access to the campaign will be notified by email as soon as the campaign is open.

Montoya closed his Sarap Baon restaurant in London's Brixton this April.
