Family-owned hotel group gives staff almost £200,000 summer bonus
Philema Hospitality Management, which owns three hotels in the South West, has given a summer bonus worth almost £200,000 to its staff.
The family-owned hospitality group, which manages the Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa and the Esplanade Hotel in Cornwall and the Boringdon Hall Hotel and Gaia Spa in Devon, revealed that 325 members of staff received a share of the £182,166 bonus.
It was given out in addition to commission, service charges and manager bonus as a sign of gratitude for those who worked between April – September 2022.
Laura Cameron, operations director at Philema Hospitality Management, said: "We appreciate that the last few years have been difficult for the hospitality industry and with the surge in demand for staycations, our teams have had to go above and beyond to offer an exceptional service to each and every guest who visited us this summer. We wanted to ensure this hard work was rewarded and their commitment to our family-run business was felt."
"We have been exceedingly fortunate during the past 12 – 18 months and have managed to retain much of our talented staff and invest in the future of our team. We have 6 individuals currently on apprenticeships and we are looking to expand this into next year. We have seen a huge success in our trainee manager program this year and are looking to relaunch for the next intake in January 2023."
Philema's employees have also benefitted from the ‘Employee Appreciation Day' scheme, which involved random team members receiving treats or vouchers as a thank-you for their hard work.
It comes at a time when hospitality businesses have been battling staff shortages amid spiralling energy costs and food price inflation.
Earlier this month, independent hospitality company Green & Fortune also offered extra payments of up to £600 to help staff with the rising cost of living.
