Original Broadmoor Hospital building could become hotel
The sale of the original Broadmoor Hospital building, which has housed killers including Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe and Moors murderer Ian Brady, could be targeted at luxury hotel brands.
The NHS plans to market the site, which it hopes will achieve a multi-million-pound price tag, according to reports in the Sunday Telegraph.
A new site for the hospital opened in December, in the grounds of the original Victorian building in Berkshire.
Broadmoor is a specialist high-security psychiatric hospital providing treatment for people with mental illness and personality disorders who represent a high degree of harm to themselves or others. It first opened in 1863.
West London NHS Trust, which owns Broadmoor, said "a range of potential uses have been identified", with funds raised to contribute towards the cost of the new hospital.
