Man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after hotel fire

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire was extinguished in a hotel room in Hull.

Firefighters were called to the Royal Hotel Hull in Ferensway at about 6:15pm on Saturday (11 March) and found a bed on fire, with flames having spread to the carpet on the first floor of the building. The room and corridor were heavily smoke-logged and four men and women were treated for smoke inhalation.

British Transport Police were called to the scene at around 6:25pm and arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has since been released pending further enquiries.
