Akoko owner to open Akara in London's Borough Yards
The owner of Akoko in Fitzrovia is to open his second restaurant Akara in London's Borough Yards in October, further championing West African cuisine.
Aji Akokomi's new restaurant takes the name of a West African black-eye bean fritter with roots, which will feature on the à la carte menu of the 40-cover restaurant.
Akokomi said: "The Akara concept has been a labour of love for quite some time, and we've always envisioned it here in Borough.
"We're thrilled to bring Akara to this exceptional location, where the restaurant will serve as a vibrant celebration of the unique dishes, ingredients, and techniques that excite and inspire us."
The menu will feature a variety of akaras featuring fillings such as Carabinero prawns. Main courses will include a selection of barbequed meat, fish and vegetable plates such as labu aged beef, dibi lamb and nokoss sea bream.
The cocktail menu featuring Akoko favourites like the cacao and dates negroni as well as new creations like smoked plantain caipirinha, will sit alongside a selection of non-alcoholic beverages and a wine list showcasing lesser-known grape varieties from around the world.
