28-50 Wine Workshop & Kitchen owner to open second site in Covent Garden
The owner of Marylebone's 28-50 Wine Workshop & Kitchen is to open a second site in Covent Garden next month
The concept, first opened by chef Aggi Sverrisson and sommelier Xavier Rousset in 2010, had grown to three sites before all were placed on the market in 2018.
The Marylebone Lane site was purchased along with the concept and continued to trade as 28-50, while its Farringdon property was sold to Clifford's restaurant and Atul Kochhar opened Kanishka on its Mayfair site.
The new owner of the brand will open the second concept in Upper St Martin's Lane, Covent Garden. The 280-cover restaurant will have a more modern, premium offering to its sister site serving a daily changing European menu.
Restaurant Property sold the site, with a lease that runs until 2035 at an annual rent of £500,000.
Danielle Leslie, surveyor at Restaurant Property, said: "The expansion of 28-50 is testament to a resilient leisure market for independent operators, and those who focus on the quality of each site rather than quantity.
"While casual dining has faced a downturn, this has opened a window of opportunity for new and exciting operators to take advantage of and thrive.
"We are pleased to have sold a second site to 28-50 and we wish them the best of luck with their future endeavours."
