Wroxall Abbey closed and in administration
The four-AA-starred Wroxall Abbey hotel in Warwickshire has closed and the company that owned it has fallen into administration.
The 72-bedroom property had been owned by the private company Wroxall Abbey Estate since 2001. John Kent and John Clarkson are listed as having significant control over Wroxall Abbey Estate on Companies House. Mark Malone and Gareth Prince from Begbies Traynor were jointly appointed to handle the administration of the company on 22 October 2019.
Wroxall ceased trading on 31 July following financial difficulties, but entered into an arrangement with Signature Living to operate the hotel for eight weeks during August and September so the business could continue while a sale of assets was further explored.
This arrangement recently ended and the hotel closed. The administrators have since been appointed and are making enquiries so the position of stakeholders including former employees, trade suppliers and customers can be confirmed.
A spokesperson for Signature Living said: "Anyone who expressed an interest in a wedding, or made a wedding booking whilst Signature Living temporarily operated Wroxall Abbey has been contacted and refunds have been arranged. Any weddings booked outside of the time of Signature Living's temporary management (eight weeks), is the responsibility of Wroxall Abbey Estates."
