Winners of Young Chef Young Waiter England 2022 announced
The winners of the Young Chef Young Waiter (YCYW) England 2022 competition were revealed last night at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.
Miltan Masha (pictured above third from left) from the Monarch Theatre restaurant in London was the winning chef, while Elisa Doisneau from the Kitchen Table in London (above third from right) was awarded winning waiter.
They beat runners-up Kenney Markham (chef) from the Falcon Hotel in Castle Ashby and Alex Churcher-Steele (waiter) from Da Terra in London.
The England Final took place across two days, during which chefs were asked to cook a three course meal, while waiters participated in cocktail mixing and champagne pouring.
Both Masha and Doisenau will be flying to Monaco for the world final, which will be held on 15-16 November.
They will be competing against the national YCYW champions from the Cayman Islands, Ireland, USA, Macao, India and Wales.
The international finalists will design a winning menu and serve their dishes to a judging panel led by Jason Atherton.
Commenting on the England final, Adam Handling, YCYW England head chef judge, said: "The final this year was very exciting and Miltan is a very worthy winner of the competition. He was in first place at the semi final round as well, so he has been consistent across the two days of the competition.
"I'm looking forward to seeing Miltan representing England at the World Final in Monaco to shine a spotlight on the young talent in the hospitality industry."
Simon King, YCYW England head waiter judge, added: "Our waiter winner Elisa displayed an all round ability in the final competition. She is naturally engaging, has wonderful charisma and really sees the bigger picture, looking far beyond her own table."
Ahead of the world championships, Robert Walton, World YCYW chairman, said: "We've always had global ambitions for this incredible competition and now our aim is to create the Olympic games of hospitality with contestants from all over the world."
YCYW supports the Springboard Charity's FutureChef and the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Adopt a School scheme and is backed by a number of brands including Arla Pro, Thermomix, Dojo, NEC Group, the Wine Guild, the London Essence Co, Aqua Libra and Cookaway.
