Tresco's New Inn refurbishment to complete in April

The "substantial refurbishment" of the New Inn on Tresco island is due to complete in April 2022, it has been announced.

The refurbishment of the Driftwood bar is being overseen by interior designer Tania Streeter, who will refresh the paint and add new fabrics. Streeter is also leading the upgrade across the island's 100 holiday cottages over the next five years.

The Pavilion will receive the biggest transformation, with the addition of zinc-topped reclaimed tables, a log burner and walls decorated with treasures from the Tresco archives, which have been uncovered by Lucy Dorrien-Smith and Streeter. Outside, a new terrace will sit alongside the existing beer garden.

The menu of pub favourites will be joined by the likes of a Cornish Chateaubriand, half lobster with chilli and herb butter or freshly-caught whole local mackerel. In the summer months, the new outdoor grill will be fired up and food will be cooked over the coals.

Upstairs, the 16 bedrooms, priced from £185 B&B, will also have new interiors.

Run under the stewardship of the Dorrien-Smith family for nearly two centuries, Tresco is the second-biggest island of the Isles of Scilly. Former Hotel du Vin chief operating officer Nick Halliday is chief executive of Tresco Estate.
