Thesleff Group announces acquisition of Sale e Pepe
The Thesleff Group, which operates Los Mochis and Viajante87, has acquired Sale e Pepe restaurant in London's Knightsbridge.
The acquisition includes the leasehold of the restaurant premises and the brand. Toni Corricelli started Sale e Pepe out of two shop fronts on Pavilion Road in 1974, which was extended in 1985, and has since attracted clientele including Rod Stewart, Sir Roger Moore, Priscilla Presley and Ringo Starr. The Thesleff Group said it would bring Sale e Pepe "back to its former glory".
Dishes will still include linguine all'aragosta with lobster, cherry tomatoes, basil and garlic, and sogliola alla mugnaia (Dover sole). It will also feature new classics such as vitello tonnato, thinly sliced veal with tuna and caper sauce; insalata di granchio, crab and avocado salad with tomato concassé, spring onions, chives and lemon dressing; and linguine alle vongolle with fresh clams, garlic and parsley.
Corricelli, who is retiring, said: "Since 1974 it has been an honour and a pleasure to be of service during my time at Sale e Pepe. It took me a while to find the right person to pass the baton onto and I believe Markus and the Thesleff Group are the best choice to carry on the tradition of S&P with the same enthusiasm and dedication in serving not only the Knightsbridge clientele but London, the UK and the rest of the world."
Markus Thesleff said: "We are really excited and inspired to be the new custodians of Sale e Pepe of Knightsbridge, one of the most iconic restaurants in London. It's a very rare opportunity to be able to acquire such a rich legacy steeped in almost 50 years of history. We are really proud that Toni has trusted us with this iconic brand and institution."
Founded by Markus Thesleff in 2019, the Thesleff Group owns both Los Mochis, the Mexican-Japanese restaurant and agaveria bar, as well as Viajante87, the recently opened zero waste cocktail bar, also in Notting Hill. The group is set to open Los Mochis City in Broadgate Circle, a 14,000 sq ft restaurant on the rooftop of 100 Liverpool Street, this autumn.
