The Lowry hotel completes £4m refurbishment

The five-AA-star Lowry hotel in Manchester has completed a £4m refurbishment, just over a year after being sold by Rocco Forte Hotels.

Healthy financial results in 2015 provided the foundations for the refurbishment, which has included an overhaul of the design of the 165 bedrooms and public areas.

The new look for the hotel, now owned by Westmont Hospitality and its investment partner Mount Kellett Capital Management, includes the purchase and commission of some original artwork. Manchester's rock history features prominently, with four large images by photographer Kevin Cummins, displayed in the lobby. Ten new large-scale photographs of Manchester by photographer Allan Grainger are also be displayed in the corridor and lift areas of the guest floors.

General manager Adrian Ellis (pictured below) said: "We are the only hotel in the city centre named after an artist, and we are proud to celebrate not only LS Lowry, renowned for his depictions of Salford, but also by displaying contemporary artists and photographers.

"Our investment in art reflects our distinctive customer experience. A visit to the Lowry hotel is a stimulating and rewarding experience as well as a high-quality one. The refurbishment is also a vote of confidence in the future of Manchester as a leading business and visitor destination."

Ellis said there were further plans to refurbish the spa and banqueting suites of the hotel during 2016.
