Adrian Ellis returns to Manchester as GM of the Lowry hotel
Adrian Ellis has been appointed general manager of the five-AA-star, 158-bedroom Lowry hotel, five months after the property was sold by Rocco Forte Hotels.
He replaces Peter Kienast, who is leaving the Lowry after five years to become general manager of Rocco Forte's Hotel de Rome I Berlin.
Ellis, an Acorn Award winner in 1993, joins the Lowry from a stint as a rebranding consultant with Fairmont Hotels, having previously spent more than three years as general manager at the 318-bedroom Fairmont Baku hotel in Azerbaijan. Before that he held general manger roles at the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal in Budapest, Hungary; Le Royal Meridien Bristol, Warsaw, Poland; and Le Meridien Changi, Singapore.
Manchester is familiar to Ellis; he previously worked in the city as general manager of the Manchester Marriott V&A (formerly known at the Victoria and Albert hotel), leaving in 1999 to move overseas.
Originally from Norwich, he started his career working in the city's Ambassador and Dunston Hall hotels.
Ellis, who was named one of the top hoteliers in the world by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences in 2008, said he was delighted to be returning to Manchester.
"I look forward to working with the team to continue building the reputation, performance and quality of customer service provided for all our guests and to overseeing the extensive renovations planned."
Kienast said he wished the Lowry team well for the future. I have enjoyed my time in Manchester with its colourful mix of international music and sport."
Rocco Forte Hotels sold the Lowry in September 2014 to the Westmont Hospitality Group and its investment partner Mount Kellett Capital Management, off a guide price of £40m.
