The Londoner on Leicester Square reveals F&B line-up including rooftop izakaya lounge
The Londoner, the £300m, 350-bedroom hotel being developed on Leicester Square by Edwardian Hotels London and Yabu Pushelberg, has revealed the details of its six food and beverage outlets set to open at the property in September.
Concepts will be designed by Amir Jati, creative director at Edwardian Hotels London, and the Londoner's executive chefs Matt Downes, Shailesh Deshmukh and Neil Armstrong.
They will include 8 at the Londoner, a rooftop izakaya lounge offering modern Japanese small dishes, robata dishes and a moriawase section with tartare, sashimi and sushi rolls, overseen by head chef Kuenhi Won. The drinks list will include sakes, Japanese whisky and cocktails by head mixologist Pierpaolo Schirru.
The Londoner's signature restaurant on the ground floor will be the Mediterranean-style Whitcomb's restaurant and terrace overlooking Leicester Square. Its seasonal à la carte menu will be created by chef Deshmukh with dishes such as a classic escargot with white wine, garlic and 'nduja lemon butter, and seared filet mignon with chanterelle and aged Parmesan crème.
Located on the corner of St Martin's Street and Orange Street, Joshua's Tavern is named after 18th-century portrait artist, Leicester Square local and gin lover Sir Joshua Reynolds.
The menu will include more than 50 regionally sourced gins, including a selection of vintage gins, with some dating to 1950. Alongside gin, it will also serve copper tank beer, wines and spirits with snacks such as Roquefort-filled biscuits and ‘nduja and Taleggio pastry bakes.
Joshua's Tavern will also have a programme of live musicians, as will the Stage, an outlet focused on Champagne with Champagne breakfasts, afternoon teas and pairings such as seasonal rock oysters, Oscietra and Beluga caviar, charcuterie and artisan cheeses.
The Londoner's basement 24-hour gym and wellbeing area will have its own outlet, Refuel, open only to hotel guests, members and day spa guests. Available for guests at the bar or in a cabana, the offering will include smoothies, juices and Ayurvedic bowls.
The Residence will be exclusively for hotel residents, with areas for relaxing, working and indulging and complimentary items available from a cart on offer, from breakfast items to Mediterranean antipasti. For intimate dining, the Residence's Y bar and the Drawing Room will offer an à la carte menu and the Whisky Room will have an intimate 14-cover parlour.
