Hotel plans for former TfL headquarters

Plans to transform the former Transport for London (TfL) headquarters above St James's Park station into a 526-bedroom hotel have been revealed.

TfL sold the 150-year lease of the Grade I-listed 55 Broadway building to Integrity International Group earlier this year for a reported £120m. Integrity International Group is owned by hotelier Tony Matharu's Blue Orchid (St James) company. Matharu, along with his brothers Harpal and Tony, founded Grange Hotels and is still managing director of the group.

The sale also included other buildings in the ‘Broadway Complex', 100 Petty France and the ‘Wing Over Station' building, which would be part of the redevelopment.

The "high quality lifestyle" 14-storey hotel would comprise a ground floor restaurant, event and meeting spaces, bars, a gym and a spa. Blue Orchid (St James) lodged the plans with Westminster City Council earlier this week and awaits planning permission.

55 Broadway was completed in 1929, designed by Charles Holden, and was the tallest office building in London when it opened.
