Telford College sells the Telford Whitehouse hotel for £2.5m
Telford College has sold the Telford Whitehouse hotel to hotelier Raj Handa of R&A Hotels Group for £2.5m.
Handa has acquired the freehold for the 90-bedroom hotel which adjoins Telford Football Club. Knight Frank is also marketing the 999-year lease for the hotel's ground floor gym and spa and its first-floor restaurant and conferencing facilities, which can host up to 400 delegates.
Handa said: "Telford is a great acquisition for us. The limited service aspect of the business allows our management team to focus on delivering good quality accommodation, whilst driving costs. Its central location allows the trade to be developed to business travellers, and the proximity to both the Ironbridge and the Wreakin opens the market to leisure guests.
"We are extremely honoured to be involved in this vibrant community and hope to grow the business, and are looking forward to exciting times."
Matthew Smith, partner in the Knight Frank Hotels team, added: "We have received considerable interest from investors attracted by the limited-service offering for the 90-bedroom purpose-built accommodation block. R&A Hotels have an experienced management team with an emphasis on room-led hotel operations, for which this opportunity fits perfectly into the growing portfolio.
"Mr Handa currently owns three hotels across the North West and has exciting plans to further develop the trading performance targeting the corporate and private leisure markets. Under his stewardship we have no doubt the business will continue to go from strength to strength."
