Akwasi Brenya-Mensa's Tatale residency at the Africa Centre to end in June
Akwasi Brenya-Mensa's Tatale restaurant residency at the Africa Centre in Southwark, London, will end on June 18, it has been confirmed.
Ghanaian-British restaurateur Brenya-Mensa launched the 50-cover restaurant in July 2022. Speaking to The Caterer at the time he said he hoped it would be "a gateway for people to explore African food, ingredients and flavours."
The broadcaster and curator turned chef previously ran a city-centre restaurant in Sheffield, toured the world with a supper club concept and worked with James Cochran at restaurant 12:51 in Islington, North London.
A statement from the Africa Centre read: "The completion of Tatale's residency as the centre's in-house restauranteur epitomises the centre's commitment to providing a platform for the endless talent to be found in African entrepreneurship and innovation.
"Akwasi Brenya-Mensa and the Tatale team have been in residence at the Africa Centre since June 2022, when the Centre opened its new flagship building in Southwark, London. Tatale brought a contemporary Pan-African concept that shared stories through food, art and culture, born in Ghana and developed in London.
"The result has been the development of an inspirational, culinary offering that speaks to the richness of pan-African recipes, allowing friends old and new to experience the best in contemporary African cuisine."
The Caterer has contacted Akwasi Brenya-Mensa to ask if a new location has been found for Tatale.
