Talad restaurant to launch as deli
Natalie Tangsakul, who was due to open her first restaurant Talad in April, is is set to launch the site as a deli instead later this month.
The deli will open in London's Chelsea on 27 June, selling Thai and Asian storecupboard, bakery and refrigerated items. Produce will be available for collection or delivery.
Tangsakul, who hails from Chiang Rai in Thailand and previously worked front of house at various Rosa's Thai restaurants, has also created a menu of quick eats and ‘prepare at home' dishes, including soups and curries such as hung le, Shan-style nam ngiao and isaan gaeng om, as well as curry pastes and marinated meats.
She will also be making and selling Thai kimchi, salads and homemade kombucha, and pastries such as pandan croissants and passionfruit brownies.
Tangsakul said: "When the lockdown started, I couldn't get my hands on my usual weekly crop of Thai ingredients. I couldn't find them anywhere – all my usual haunts and markets had closed down overnight. So it got me thinking…. why don't I just do it myself? And Talad Grocery was born. I'm sad not to have been able to open a restaurant, but thrilled I've been able to adapt my offering and still get to tell the world about Talad."
