Santo Remedio to return to Shoreditch with new restaurant
The team behind Mexican restaurant Santo Remedio are to open a new site in Shoreditch, five years after their original venue was forced to close.
Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes have taken the former Pod site on 55 Great Eastern Street, which they will reopen as Santo Remedio Taqueria in September.
In an email to customers, the pair described it as an "'ode to the bustling taquerias of Mexico", which will offer menu favourites from their London Bridge restaurant, monthly specials and a "takeaway hatch serving an array of Mexican street food favourites".
"You can expect the same vibrant interiors curated by Natalie and Edson over at London Bridge, and an atmosphere to match," they said.
The couple launched the first Santo Remedio restaurant in Shoreditch in 2016 and it won positive reviews from critics Grace Dent, Jay Rayner and Giles Coren, but had to shut downafter several months due to issues with the building.
Santo Remedio reopened in London Bridge in 2017 with the support of a £40,000 crowdfunding campaign. The restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2021 with a Michelin plate for "good cooking".
Edson released his first cookbook, Ciudad de México, earlier this year.
