Robert Newmark to launch new street food market Lalaland at ex-Dinerama site
Restaurateur Robert Newmark is set to relaunch the former Dinerama site in London's Shoreditch next month as Lalaland.
The Beach Blanket Babylon owner has invested around £1m in developing the site into a multi-level courtyard with a plunge pool, waterfalls, living walls and fire pits, which will host live music events and resident DJs.
Newmark said: "Dinerama was an undoubted legend on the London street food scene, and we wanted to create something that would remain faithful to the original but at the same time offer visitors a daringly different concept. At a time when UK hospitality has been decimated by the pandemic, we also wanted to demonstrate our commitment to the industry by investing in an ambitious project of this size."
The market is open daily from midday to late, and pitches are available measuring from 4 sq m to 90 s qm.
The Catererpreviously reported that the site had been given planning permission for redevelopment as a 12-storey, 295-bedroom hotel. According to representatives of Newmark, the lease of the site was subsequently given to him.
Newmark previously opened Pump Shoreditch on behalf of owner La Brea. The street food market got into hot water with the local council and was handed a fine for breaching its licence in 2016. Later that year, Newmark was banned from acting as a company director for five years for causing and allowing a company to trade while insolvent.
