Pret A Manger launches first grocery range with Tesco
Pret A Manger has started selling its baked goods in Tesco as it looks to offset the impact of lockdown on its cafes.
The chain has signed a deal with the supermarket to offer bake-at-home croissants in around 700 UK stores from today (15 March).
The frozen range comes in packs of six and includes classic all butter, chocolate-filled, and vegan varieties, which cook in under 30 minutes.
Clare Clough, Pret's UK managing director, told The Caterer last year that the brand was looking at selling its granola, sauces and dressings in retail stores.
She said Pret's first supermarket range was "an important moment in our journey to bring Pret to more people".
Pret has pivoted its focus away from its traditional commuter customers during the pandemic and began selling bags of its coffee on Amazon after lockdown closed its cafes last year. Its beans are now available through Ocado, Waitrose and Sainsbury's.
The chain also offers a delivery dinner menu, including chicken katsu curry and focaccia pizzas, from 13 stores across London and surrounding areas.
Pret is owned by German investment fund JAB Holdings and runs 389 shops in the UK, including 266 in London and a further 156 in nine international markets. It employs around 9,000 people worldwide, including 6,500 in the UK.
