Maybourne Hotel Group buys the Montage Beverly Hills
Maybourne Hotel Group – operator of Claridge's, the Connaught and the Berkeley – has acquired the Montage Beverly Hills to kick start a global expansion strategy.
The 201-bedroom hotel in California, which holds a five-star rating from Forbes, was sold for an undisclosed sum by Ohana Real Estate Investor, the owner of a portfolio of luxury US hotels including the Mark in New York.
Renowned for it celebrity clientele, the Montage will now undergo a re-positioning and renovation to bring it in line with its three London properties.
While Maybourne has not owned any overseas hotels in its current guise, it did previously own the Lancaster in Paris when the company was known as the Savoy Group. The business was renamed in 2005 following the sale of the Savoy hotel.
Paddy McKillen, who heads Maybourne, said: " We plan to bring some of the inspiration and creative energy to Montage Beverly Hills that has made our London hotels so successful and much loved, but we never forget that the most important element of all our hotels is our staff and our guests."
Maybourne Hotel Group has been owned by Constellation Hotels, which is headed by the Qatari Al Thani royal family, since 2015.
