Margate's historic Fort Road Hotel to be sold at auction
The historic Fort Road Hotel in Margate will be sold at auction after sitting empty for more than 22 years.
The seafront hotel, which is listed on maps dating back to 1821 and believed to have been visited by artist JMW Turner, was bought by Thanet Council using a Compulsory Purchase Order in 2010.
The authority had considered converting it to social housing, but last year voted to dispose of the building after taking into account the costs involved.
The council had also considered the demolition of the building, but considered it not to be "good value for money", adding that it would result in the "loss of a building of heritage significance".
The building has been given a guide price of £180,000 plus fees.
