Lussmanns and Stickleback win at MSC Awards 2020
Lussmanns Sustainable Fish & Grill has been awarded Menu of the Year for the second year running at the Marine Stewardship Council's (MSC) UK annual awards, in a virtual live-stream ceremony from the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.
The award recognises Lussmanns' strong commitment to sourcing MSC-certified fish and seafood, as well the extensive variety of MSC-certified species on their menus.
Independent supplier the Stickleback Fish Company won Fresh Fish Foodservice Supplier of the Year for the first time after being nominated by its restaurant customers. Stickleback has been instrumental in bringing a diverse range of MSC-certified options to its foodservice customers, including Lussmanns, such as MSC monkfish and ling.
The virtual awards were streamed from the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth and included guest speakers Mitch Tonks, MSC ambassador and restaurateur, Peter Buckland, fisherman from the MSC Cornish sardine fishery, and Tommy Russell, from the Poole Harbour Clam & Cockle Fishery, as well as Luke Pollard, the MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, and shadow secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs.
Loren Hiller, senior commercial officer UK and Ireland for MSC, commented: "I'd like to congratulate both Stickleback and Lussmanns who are helping further our collective effort to ensure seafood supplies are safeguarded into the future. This award win is testament to their dedication to the MSC programme and the progress that has been made by both businesses, in growing their sustainable seafood offerings. Their dynamic relationship is a great example of what can be achieved by a supply chain committed to serving sustainable fish and seafood to UK diners."
The MSC's annual awards also saw Pete Fraser, owner of Harbour Lights and Fraser's Fish and Chips in Cornwall, named Foodservice Champion at the awards, for demonstrating exceptional leadership in championing seafood sustainability.
