Leo Kattou joins Laghi's as head chef
Former Simpsons head chef Leo Kattou has taken up the same role at Laghi's restaurant in Edgbaston, Birmingham – a neighbourhood Italian restaurant owned by Luca Laghi.
Kattou posted on Instagram: "As longtime close friends, Luca and I are delighted to be collaborating, with the restaurant also having a phenomenal restaurant manager in the form of [general manager] Charlotte Carter .We already feel like a little family and can't wait to grow with our team.
"It was unexpected (as I'm sure it may be to some of you) but feels like the most natural transition for me. Our style and menu is an insight into our backgrounds; whether it's locally sourced British or the finest Italian produce cooked with the classical flavours of the Mediterranean. I can't wait to share our vision and hopefully see you all very soon."
Kattou – 2021 British Culinary Federation Chef of the Year, a semi-finalist in the BBC's 2017 MasterChef: The Professionals competition aged just 24, and an Acorn Award winner – worked at the Michelin-starred Simpsons for around 13 years, from when he was 16 years old, starting as an apprentice. The job title of head chef at Simpsons was reintroduced especially for him.
