KP of the Year 2023 opens for entries
The search is on for the Kitchen Porter of the Year 2023, the award that recognises the unsung heroes of the professional kitchen.
Entries are encouraged from all sectors of the industry, from school kitchens to Michelin-starred establishments, to celebrate KPs who go above and beyond to contribute to the efficient working of their site.
Organised by The Caterer and launched in partnership with warewash specialist Winterhalter, the KP of the Year competition has attracted hundreds of entries since its launch in 2013.
Ten KPs will be selected to make a shortlist before one lucky KP will win a prize package that includes the coveted KP of the Year trophy, a piece of Winterhalter kit worth up to £10,000 for the winning KP's employer, £1,000 in vouchers and a celebratory meal with friends and family in a casual-dining restaurant of the KP's choice.
Last year Michael Toader, head kitchen porter of the Victory Services Club in London, was the 2022 Kitchen Porter of the Year. Paul Mattocks, Toader's executive chef and nominator, said he showed "professionalism, dedication and tenacity towards his role" and led by example.
"He has not been late or missed a shift in five years," he added.

Given the current staffing climate it has never been more important to acknowledge the incredible work of KPs. Our previous winner, Michael Toader, shone through from the beginning for his unrivalled work ethic. We're looking forward to unearthing some more gems and sharing more stories of excellence this year."
Every KP put forward will receive a KP of the Year bespoke Oliver Hardy apron from Winterhalter UK and three highly commended KPs will also receive vouchers to spend on hospitality experiences.
