Kilworth House brought to market for £11m
Kilworth House Hotel & Theatre has been put on the market by owners Celia and Richard Mackay with a guide price of £11m.
The 44-bedroom, Grade II-listed hotel in Leicestershire is a Victorian estate set in 38 acres of parkland and holds four red AA stars. It has two restaurants, one of which has two AA rosettes, four private dining rooms and eight conference rooms.
The Mackay's are looking to sell the property in order to retire but are not currently in negotiation with any potential buyers. The pair said they are "keen to find the right buyer for their business" and "will not sell unless they are completely confident that any new owner will continue to uphold the same quality standards and level of investment".
The hotel has its own open-air theatre with a capacity of 550 seats, set in a wooded glade beside a lake. Additionally, the hotel has a Victorian Orangery overlooking the surrounding parkland.
Tom Cunningham, director at Savills Manchester, which is marketing the property with Christie & Co, said: "This is the first time that this renowned hotel has come to market, so we're expecting significant interest in this site. This highly profitable business is excellently positioned to continue its progression under new owners."
Jeremy Jones, head of hotels Brokerage at Christie & Co, added: "Accommodating discerning corporate, leisure and guests drawn to the unique theatre offer this highly profitable business is now ready for the next act with new owners at the helm."
The country house was built as a family home towards the end of the 19th century for John Entwisle, the High Sheriff of Leicestershire. After the death of Mr Entwisle's second wife in the 1960s, the house passed to the Snowdon family who turned it into flats. In 1999 current owners Celia and Richard Mackay bought the house and turned it into a hotel.
