Japanese restaurant Wazen opens in King's Cross, London
Wazen, a Japanese-style restaurant from chef Toshimasa Tanahashi, has opened in King's Cross, north London.
Located on Acton Street, the operation will be headed up by Tanahashi, whose 30 years' experience includes Matsuri in St James, Kyubi at the Arts Club in Mayfair, and Kouzu in Belgravia. Sous chef is Hiroshi Sudo, who has primarily trained in Japanese restaurants under Tanahashi. Junior chef de partie Alessandro Furusawa is the only UK-born member of the team.
The menu will include a selection of dishes, priced from £8.80 to £17, plus a set bento box lunch.
Typical dishes will include sashimi, tempura and sushi rolls, plus spicy tuna tartare, chicken kakinotane, baby chicken with nanban sauce, and stone bass with tomato, ume and yuzu shio ponzu. Drinks will include a focus on premium Japanese sake, available by the glass or carafe, plus ‘kikizake', a tasting flight of three sakes.
The front of house team is led by Kenichiro Urata, who joins the group from the same role at central London Japanese noodle bar Kanada-Ya.
