Harts Group to open Barrafina, Parrillan and Bar Daskal at Borough Yards
Harts Group will be opening three sites under its Barrafina, Parrillan and Bar Daskal brands at the new Borough Yards development in London early next year.
The restaurants will be among the first to open at the large-scale new shopping and dining district, set within a series of Victorian brick railway arches, viaducts and warehouses near Borough Market.
Barrafina Borough Yards will have 32 covers around a marble bar, a bookable snug and a private dining room of 16 covers and another 16 covers at tall tables overlooking the bar. The menu, led by executive chef Angel Zapata-Martin, will follow the format of existing Barrafinas, consisting of classic Spanish tapas dishes.
Parrillan Borough Yards will also follow the first Parrillan, which opened at Coal Drops Yard in King's Cross in 2019, offering para picar and seafood, meat and vegetables, cooked by guests over mini parrilla grills on their table. The chefs will also use a wood-fired grill.
Bar Daskal will be a Spanish wine and sherry bar, offering cold tapas, named after Sam, Eddie and James Hart's Bulgarian grandfather Vladimir Daskalof, a Bahaus artist and sailor who worked under the name ‘Daskal.' He and his Scottish wife fell in love with the Mallorcan village of Estellencs and settled there, building the house that the Hart brothers' mother grew up in and they continue to visit.
Bar Daskal will show a permanent exhibition of Daskal's artworks, which have largely been in private collections until now. The design of the space will also be inspired by the house in Estellencs and its surrounding area.
Sam Hart said: "My love of Spain and its cuisine began as a child in the house my grandfather built in the small village of Estellencs. Even though Barrafina was largely modelled on Barcelona's Cal Pep, the legacy of C'an Daskal has been an ever-present influence throughout my career. It is wonderful to honour these memories by bringing Bar Daskal, Barrafina and Parrillan south of the river."
The brands will be the among first to take spaces at Borough Yards, alongside fried chicken brand Butchies.
