Gymkhana to reopen in February following fire

Gymkhana has announced it will reopen in February 2020 after a blaze tore through the Michelin-starred Indian fine dining restaurant earlier this year.

Some 60 crew members from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) responded to the fire on 6 June with footage showing smoke pouring from the building on Albemarle Street.

A spokesperson for JKS Restaurants, which owns the site, confirmed at the time that nobody was harmed in the incident and the fire was extinguished three hours after it was reported.

LFB said the fire started in the restaurant's ducting (extraction system) but investigations into the exact source of ignition were inconclusive.

Half of the ground floor restaurant was damaged by fire, and an external wooden structure on the first floor flat roof and the external ducting from ground floor to roof were destroyed.

The restaurant's interiors have been given a redesign, spearheaded by newly appointed JKS design director, Samuel Hosker. As a result the basement has been remodelled including a lower-ground bar and the private dining vaults refurbished.
