Green light for 100-bedroom hotel and three restaurants in Mansfield
A 100-bedroom hotel at the heart of a £12m regeneration development in the Nottinghamshire market town of Mansfield has been given the go-ahead.
Located on a site previously occupied by a bus station and now used as a car park and taxi rank, the hotel will sit alongside three new restaurants with ancillary retail and takeaway facilities.
The 0.6 hectare development approved by Mansfield District Council will incorporate a landscaping scheme that is said will increase the biodiversity of the area by 10%.
In recommending approval of the scheme, council officers said: "This is an application that will see the regeneration of a town centre site that has been under used for a number of years.
"The impact on the historic environment is finely balanced. However this has to be weighed against the public benefits of the scheme which in essence relate to the need to regenerate an important town centre site and the economic and social benefits of the development in terms of leisure, job creation and increased spending."
Commercial property investor ARBA Group will oversee the development, which is expected to start construction in spring 2021. Development consultancy Pegasus Group provided planning advice for the submission of the application.
