Pictures: Great Scotland Yard hotel launches No 1 the Townhouse
Great Scotland Yard hotel has launched a luxurious private residence next door to its five-star, Grade II-listed hotel in central London.
Due to open its doors on 11 January 2021, the five-storey, 2,000 sq ft, Georgian-fronted townhouse consists of two double ensuite bedrooms with copper roll-top baths and decadent living areas.
The fully restored private residence has an iconic address – No 1 Great Scotland Yard. Guests will be given keys to their own front door, behind which lies a modern drawing room and basement den with original log burners, oversized sunken sofas and Bang & Oflusen TVs. A private 10-seat dining room offers an entertainment space, and guests can choose from menus prepared by the hotel.
Townhouse guests will be able to access the recently refurbished hotel next door via an access corridor, where they can visit the fitness centre and restaurants Parlour, for afternoon tea, the 40 Elephants lounge bar for snacks and apéritifs and late-night drinks at Sibin.
Sholto Smith, general manager of the Great Scotland Yard hotel, described the townhouse as "2,000 sq ft of pure luxury".
The 152-bedroom hotel reopened its doors last December, but the townhouse refurbishment wasn't completed until just before the UK descended into lockdown in March. Now the hotel is ready to open for reservations and welcome guests from 11 January.
"It gives us a level of unique offering and sets us apart somewhat," Smith said. "Hotels have presidential suites but not all London hotels have a freestanding townhouse and that's a great differentiation point for us."
He added: "The address is known around the world – it's been written in books from Sherlock Holmes and many others – and you get to own one of London's most iconic addresses while you stay here."
