Dishoom to open Canary Wharf restaurant
Dishoom is to open a restaurant in Canary Wharf this winter, bringing its total number of sites to nine.
The group has taken an 8,800 sq ft site in 13 Water Street at Wood Wharf that will seat 335 covers in a double-height restaurant, bar and terrace overlooking the water.
Dishoom, inspired by the old Irani cafés of Bombay, was founded by Shamil and Kavi Thakrar in London's Covent Garden in 2010. It has since expanded to five restaurants in London and regional sites in Edinburgh, Manchester, and Birmingham.
The group, which is famous for its long queues, pivoted to delivery during the pandemic and now operates 12 delivery kitchens across the country and an online store.
DIshoom runs a ‘meal for a meal' initiative, which began in 2015. It means that for every meal served in the restaurant the company donates the equivalent through Akshaya Patra, an Indian charity which provides free meals to state school children.
