Dishoom to open 235-seat restaurant at Battersea Power Station

Dishoom is to open its first restaurant in south London at the Battersea Power Station development next month.

The 235-cover site will be located on the Electric Boulevard area outside main building and feature a Permit Room bar serving cocktails, chai, and non-alcoholic drinks.

It will be the 11th overall site for Dishoom, which opened in Canary Wharf in 2022 and launched its first spin-off Permit Room bar in Brighton last month.

Dishoom Battersea will be decorated with futuristic Hindi typeface on the walls and feature over 100 pieces of vintage furniture sourced from Bombay, while a 1950's electromechanical clock will dominate the stairwell.

In a nod to its location close to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, the restaurant will be the first Dishoom to welcome dogs to the dining room.

Menus will feature Dishoom's signature Bombay-inspired comfort food with a Chef's Special dish of Bhatti Chicken, marinated with black spices to give it an earthy, smoky flavour, and served on the bone, in whole or half portions, with green chutney and onion lachcha salad.

Dishoom co-founder Shamil Thakrar said: "I am a proud Londoner, and Battersea Power Station is one of those few genuinely iconic London buildings.

"When I was growing up, my father would endlessly lecture me on the importance of the Power Station and its provision of power for the city – I can't quite believe we're in the fortunate position to be opening right beside it. I'm genuinely thrilled."

Dishoom, which is inspired by the old Irani cafés of Bombay, was founded by Shamil and Kavi Thakrar in London's Covent Garden in 2010. It has since expanded to six restaurants in London and regional sites in Edinburgh, Manchester, Brighton, and Birmingham.

The group said it would continue to look at opening more sites after turnover rose 64% to £94.9m in 2022 and pre-tax profits more than quadrupled to £4.7m.
