Deliveroo opens first high street grocery store in the UK
Deliveroo has opened its first bricks-and-mortar grocery store in the UK, Deliveroo Hop, on London's New Oxford Street today (3 October).
The online food delivery company has partnered with Morrisons to offer over 1,750 grocery items, including Morrisons' ‘Ready to Eat' and ‘The Best' ranges.
Customers can shop in-store by ordering through digital kiosks or via the Deliveroo app. People can choose to collect their shopping or have it delivered to them.
It comes after survey data from Deliveroo revealed that a quarter (24%) of Londoners use rapid grocery services on a weekly basis and that nearly a third (29%) of people buy ingredients for dinner on the day.
Deliveroo has also expanded its partnership with food waste app Too Good To Go to the New Oxford Street grocery store, offering £15 worth of food approaching its sell-by date for just £5.
Eric French, chief operating officer of Deliveroo, said: "Our New Oxford Street store promises a new way to shop for Deliveroo customers, giving them even greater flexibility and choice and should help boost the local area with nearly two thirds of shoppers saying they will visit other nearby shops as they come to shop with Deliveroo."
Hannah Horsfall, head of wholesale at Morrisons, added: "The launch of Deliveroo Hop's first bricks-and-mortar store represents another key moment in our partnership. The store will not only offer customers a wide choice of groceries from Morrisons but also a variety of ways to shop for them."
Deliveroo Hop first launched in September 2021. It now operates 16 sites in Hong Kong, Italy, France, the UAE and the UK, continuing to add partnerships with Waitrose, Auchan in France, ParknShop in Hong Kong and Esselunga in Italy.
