David James joins Alexander Hotels' Barnett Hill as head chef
The Oak Room restaurant at Barnett Hill hotel near Guildford, Surrey, has appointed David James as head chef.
James has joined the four-AA-star, 54-bedroom hotel from the same role at the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel in nearby Dorking. Earlier in his career he worked for Chelsea football club.
James said his vision for the two-AA-rosette restaurant (pictured) was "to serve contemporary food in a relaxed environment, using local produce that is available on our doorstep. I will ensure myself and my team spend time to carefully create dishes that deliver on flavour without over-complicating the experience."
Barnett Hill belongs to Alexander Hotels which, alongside Barnett Hill, comprises Alexander House in Turners Hill, West Sussex; Langshott Manor in Horley, Surrey; Rowhill Grange in Wilmington, Kent; and Great Fosters in Egham, Surrey.
Ian Heath, group operations director, said: "We are thrilled to have David on board with us at Barnett Hill. His passion for food and extraordinary attention to detail, paired with his relaxed and enjoyable approach is so refreshing."
